What is the difference between chiropractic and physical therapy?

What is the difference between chiropractic and physical therapy?

The chiropractor’s education

The Netherlands does not have high-level training for chiropractors. Therefore, you often see chiropractors who received their training abroad. This is also the case with us.

We have specialists at TOPCHIRO with backgrounds in America, South Africa, Italy, etc. The reason for this is twofold. Training in these countries is very good. And secondly, it gives us knowledge and expertise from different courses together. The great benefit of this is that we can further improve the best possible care.

This is an important difference from physical therapy; most physical therapists are trained at the same colleges in the Netherlands and have relatively little contact with other streams within physical therapy.

Chiropractic, on the other hand, continues to evolve due to its international nature.

What Complaints Can You See a Physical Therapist or Chiropractor With?

The physical therapist focuses primarily on muscle problems and the treatment of those muscles. This is the reason many sports injuries are treated at physios.

What is less known is that the chiropractor also has all the knowledge and skills to treat muscles. However, what the chiropractor has as an advantage is the additional knowledge of the body. This gives a chiropractor more options. A chiropractor can search on to find out if the pain is not caused by something deeper.

Consider a misalignment of a spinal vertebra that results in incorrect posture. That wrong posture can cause pain.

The best solution then is not to adjust posture. No, by correcting spinal discomfort, the body itself can regain proper posture.

In this way, the chiropractor guides the body to optimal health.

What is the best choice for Sports Injuries

This question is very personal.

As chiropractors, we can only answer this question for our own care. We see a lot of good results in athletes. The reason is that we are not only concerned with injuries.

Precisely optimal health by preventing injuries is the goal of our practice. This means that sometimes we will be concerned with finding out the deeper cause of sports injuries or pains, but also that we are always focused on keeping the body in optimal condition.
