Chiropractic care for nerve entrapment in the back
Back pain can be very annoying and interfere with your daily activities such as walking, lifting and sitting. The pain may be temporary, such as after sleeping in the wrong position, but in some cases the back pain is permanent. This can have several causes, such as a pinched nerve in your back. At TOPCHIRO, we can help you reduce or even eliminate symptoms caused by the pinched nerve.
This article will give you information about having a pinched nerve, the causes and risk factors, and read about what our chiropractors can do for you.
What is nerve entrapment?
A nerve’s function is to send signals from the brain to the limbs. Nerves in the back play an important role in controlling smaller nerves in the arms and/or legs. Hence, nerve entrapment in your back can also cause pain or stiffness in other areas, such as the buttocks and/or legs.
A nerve can become pinched by surrounding tissue that presses against the nerve for long periods of time. This tissue can be muscle, tendon, cartilage or bone. The entrapment puts pressure on the nerve and causes it to become damaged. Communication between the brain and limbs is disrupted by this damage, and symptoms will arise. You may experience tingling, numbness, weakness and pain.

Hernia and back pain
The cause of nerve entrapment may be a herniated disc. Between your spinal discs is tissue with a soft core, a type of gel. With a herniated disc, this soft core bulges, which can pinch the nerves around it. This causes sharp pains. The pain may radiate to your buttock or leg and may go into the lower leg, sometimes into the foot.
Risk factors
A number of factors contribute to the development of a pinched nerve in the back. You can get nerve entrapment from poor posture of the neck or back or from sitting in the same position for long periods of time. In addition, performing repetitive motions causes tissue irritation, and you may also be at risk of nerve entrapment after sustaining an injury.

Help with back pain
Personalized care mode
At TOPCHIRO, we work with a care plan that consists of three phases: an intensive phase, a stabilization phase and a maintenance phase. Beforehand, there will be a conversation between you and the chiropractor to discuss the symptoms you are experiencing. The aspects of your daily life are also included in the conversation. Based on a scan and examination results, a personalized care plan will be created for you.
The care plan
During the intensive phase, the chiropractor attempts to relieve your nerve entrapment by applying manual pressure. The chiropractor presses on the points of your body where the pinched nerve is located through quick, controlled movements. The mobility is thus increased and more space is created for the nerve. This will reduce the pain.
During the stabilization phase, the muscles take center stage. The methods used in this phase are massages and mobilization exercises, which strengthen the muscles.
