How does pelvic torsion occur?

Controle heup

The pelvis is a very important part of the body. It connects the back to the legs. Therefore, problems with the pelvis can have major consequences. Pelvic problems are common and can manifest themselves in a variety of ways, such as from a leg length difference, entrapment of a nerve or the misalignment of the pelvis.

The problem arises from pelvic torsion. Our care can be an excellent solution to the symptoms of pelvic torsion.

What is the cause of pelvic torsion?

Pelvic torsion, also known as pelvic twisting, indicates a situation in which the pelvis is not in its normal position. The pelvis is central to the body, so many muscles run along the pelvis or are attached to it.

Normally, these muscles pull with equal force on both sides of the pelvis. When a disturbance occurs in this, it results in uneven forces acting on the pelvis, causing torsion.

One half of the pelvis is then higher or more forward than the other side of the pelvis. This makes it appear as if one leg is longer than the other. Sometimes a leg length difference is the direct cause of pelvic torsion, but this is not always the case.

A trauma, fall or pregnancy/birth can also cause pelvic torsion. In addition, muscle weakness, incorrect posture or stress, among other things, can be a trigger for the development of pelvic twisting.

What are the symptoms of pelvic torsion?

Pelvic torsion does not always have to cause problems, but when problems do occur, the symptoms of this can vary greatly from one individual to another. Many people with pelvic torsion experience pain in and around the pelvis, have difficulty moving or experience radiating pain toward a buttock or leg.

In addition, pelvic problems are often compensated for by other parts of the body*. As a result, you may also have trouble with your shoulders, neck or back, or experience symptoms in your legs.

What can a chiropractor do for pelvic torsion?

A chiropractor specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders. This is the entirety of bones, skeletal muscles, joints, capsules, cartilage and ligaments, which includes the pelvis.

With the chiropractor’s expertise, the cause of your symptoms can be determined. During treatment, the chiropractor sees the body as a whole. This involves looking not only at the pelvis, but also at the spine, among other things.

An important part of chiropractic care is body recovery. During treatments, the chiropractor creates the right conditions for the body to recover. The practitioner does this by manipulating joints.

This involves manually applying a certain amount of pressure to the joints. This gives muscles and nerves room to recover. Thus, the position of the pelvis slowly returns to the position before the occurrence of the pelvic torsion.

Healthcare at TOPCHIRO

The chiropractor’s goal is to improve the mobility and stability of the pelvis and counteract pain. This is accomplished by addressing the cause of the problem and also looking at the entire body.

During the intake interview, we ask questions about your symptoms and perform a physical examination. Based on this, we create a care plan that fits your needs and goals. Then we start the manipulations.

If necessary, we provide muscle strengthening exercises to strengthen the muscles around the pelvis. These can be performed at home. In addition, we will provide you with advice on your posture. Good posture is important to keep the symptoms from returning.
