Top 6 Myths About Chiropractic Debunked

By now you know I’m a chiropractor. I love chiropractic. I love seeing the results that our clients get and most of our clients, absolutely love chiropractic, too. They can’t imagine their life without it.

There’s a lot of people too though who for one reason or another, are afraid of a chiropractor. What I found is that there are six top myths or misbeliefs that keep people from benefiting from chiropractic care. I wanted to go through those today.

The first one is that when you see a chiropractor, you have to go for life.

That’s not true. You don’t have to. You don’t have to exercise, you don’t have to eat healthily, and you don’t have to go to the dentist, but we choose to because we know what’s good for us. That’s why many of our clients come for life. It’s because they choose to.

I don’t know any of you but have you ever gone to the dentist and they said, “Everything looks great. Throw out your toothbrush. You don’t have to take care of your teeth anymore?”

What we do is we’re never going to stop taking care of our spine and nervous system. Most of us choose to go for life, but we don’t have to.

Next, chiropractors are only for back pain.

This is a myth, but it’s easy to understand because the chiropractor addresses the spine or the back, it’s normal and understandable that people think it is only for back pain.

Also because back pain resolves rather quickly with chiropractic care, that’s what gives people the impression it is for back pain.

The truth is, your spine and back protect your nervous system.

Real chiropractic care, the heart of it, is freeing up stress on that nervous system so that you can function at your best.

Next, chiropractic is dangerous. I hear this one a lot.

The chiropractic corrections, don’t hurt. These small, precise movements executed by the chiropractor, they’re designed to relieve stress, not to cause it.

Next, chiropractic. It’s not for everyone. Well, that’s not true.

Many dogs, cats, horses, many animals also receive chiropractic care.

The truth is, any animal with a spine can receive chiropractic care.

All men, women, children, pregnant women, all receive chiropractic care, and in fact, it’s children that get the quickest and fastest results. That’s probably for two reasons.

One, they haven’t had years of building up old chronic patterns, and two, because they have less anxiety about it.

They don’t know what to expect. They don’t work things up in their mind as we do sometimes.

Next, chiropractic is expensive. Well, a happier healthier life, that’s priceless.

Chiropractic care is extremely cost-effective.

Compare this to surgery or time off work, expensive prescription drugs, irreplaceable family time.

Ten years, ten full years of chiropractic care costs less than just one surgery.

Next, chiropractors are not doctors. Well, this is common, a common belief that chiropractors are less, say, educated or not real doctors.

In fact, maybe you didn’t know, chiropractic requires four to five years of graduate studies.

Where I went to school in the United States, we had to pass four certification exams, much like the medical doctor.

While we don’t study in that four to five years as much pharmacology and the effects of drugs as, say, the medical doctor would, there’s a reason for that.

Chiropractic is a drug-free profession.

Instead, we’re spending more time on how your spine works, how to correct your spine in the best, most effective way possible.
